BALZAC are widely recognized as the Japanese counterpart to the legendary American horror-punk band, The Misfits. The two groups have even gone on to establish a close relationship over the years, which has greatly improved BALZAC’s international exposure.

Horror movies and early punk rock music figure prominently into BALZAC's sound and lyrics. The influence of zombie movies can also be seen in their "slasher" images, frequent use of skeleton costumes and general aesthetic.

Biography

In 1992, BALZAC was formed in Osaka by vocalist Hirosuke Nishiyama after the demise of his previous project, Astrozombies. Hirosuke has been the band’s only consistent member throughout the years.

Before 1992 was over, BALZAC had released their first demo tape, Scapegoat 666, which was limited to just thirteen copies. Despite having only recently formed, BALZAC performed frequently on the underground music scene in Osaka, and even occasionally in Tokyo.

Soon after, BALZAC released their first single, The Lord of the Light and the Darkness through their own label, Evilegend 13 Records. Over the next few years, the group released more singles through a variety of labels and were featured on various compilations.

Their breakthrough however, came in 1995, when they were signed by Alchemy Records, through which they released their first full-length album, The Last Men on Earth. Despite being regarded as a "fresh" band, BALZAC had already begun to receive positive reactions on the Japanese underground scene. However, BALZAC would not establish themselves in the West for years to come.

Around this time, people began to notice that both the music on The Last Men on Earth and the band’s image seemed heavily influenced by The Misfits. Although BALZAC never denied this close relationship, it should be noted that Nishiyama has also cited Samhain (a band started by ex-Misfits singer Glenn Danzig) as a major influence for BALZAC.

Shortly before the release of their third single in 1996, the group's bassist Anti and drummer H. Nishino left the band. However, there was no stopping BALZAC. One of Nishiyama's longtime friends, Imai Akio, joined the group. Imai had been performing with his own band, The Clash Dogs, at the time, but he left them in order to help his friend.

Since the group was still without a drummer, Masami agreed to perform as the percussionist for their upcoming releases. However, by 1997, when BALZAC were set to record their second full-length album, Masami left the band. Following this setback, the band once again recruited a friend; a drummer named Okano Futoshi. However, it should be noted that Okano is actually more of a session member of BALZAC and mostly just comes to their aid when they are without a drummer.

In 1998, BALZAC recruited Kill to fill the drummer position and finally began to attract more attention on the Japanese music scene. Not only that, but they also gained the recognition of the recently reformed Misfits, who were then fronted by Jerry Only. BALZAC was the opening act for the band on their first tour of Japan. This would lead to the formation of a great friendship between the two bands and gain BALZAC valuable Western exposure.

That year proved to be one of the biggest yet for the band, as they began to perform in larger venues alongside other notable groups such as Sobut and The Mad Capsule Markets. They also released a split CD with The Hate Honey, were featured on the VHS Devilock Night, and released their debut video and third album 13 Stairway -The Children of the Night-. To promote the album, BALZAC embarked on a nationwide tour, selling out several shows along the way.

The following year saw the release of a split CD with Sobut, which featured the songs The End of Century and No Resistance 1968, both of which have become fan favorites. The band also released a special 12" version of the album Isolation From No. 13, which was a remixed edition sold with toy figures known as T.W.I.M. (The World Is Mine). That Halloween saw the release of one of BALZAC's most popular songs, Into the Light From the 13 Dark Night on CD, cassette and vinyl. Following the release of the single, the band was once again back on tour and also released a 7" flexi, featuring a cover of British punk band The Damned's song, Neat Neat Neat.

The year 2000 saw the band return to a heavy tour schedule. They opened for The Misfits once again upon their return to Japan and, almost directly after that tour, performed alongside The Mad Capsule Markets for a number of shows. The same year saw the release of a set of collectible figures manufactured by Medicom Toy Co., which included figures of the members and a 7" figure called Hands of 9 Evil. This particular set of figurines is now one of the most desirable of BALZAC's sets among collectors. They also released a 12" figurine of Paperbag Man (the band’s official mascot) in three colors, all of which are highly sought after.

That year in Osaka, the group also established their first retail store, Shocker!!!, which focused on selling their brand of the same name, as well as official band merchandise. Nishiyama also sold his clothing brand, Dementia Thirteen through the store and, most recently, BALZAC have also established another clothing line called Culture.

Early 2001 saw the release of several of BALZAC's most popular singles, as well as a box set featuring art by Maruo Suehiro, who was responsible for the artwork on their concept album, Zennou naru musuu no me ha yubi sasu. The band also contributed to Abstruct Madness, a split record with Delta and Rocky and the Sweden. However, toward the end of the year, BALZAC once again found themselves without a drummer as Kill quit the band for personal reasons.

Another close friend of the band, Takayuki, having just departed from his previous band The Battie Boys, joined the group as their new drummer. That year also signaled the opening of their second retail store, Coffin, in Kyoto.

The following year, BALZAC released a split single with The Misfits, on which they sang The Haunting and Don't Open 'Til Doomsday as a medley, whilst The Misfits covered Day the Earth Caught Fire. On Halloween, BALZAC were invited to perform alongside the band in New York. Although BALZAC had attracted attention from overseas beforehand, this was their first venture abroad.

2003 was one of BALZAC's most successful years, as the group toured with legendary bands such as The Misfits, The Damned, The Dickies and Agnostic Front in the West. However, before these tours the band released Beware of Darkness. This maxi-single was included as a part of a special, 4-figure toy set by Medicom Toys Co. That year also saw BALZAC’s first album released in America under the newly-founded Misfit Records and Out of the Light of the 13 Night released in Germany through G-Force Records.

The following year saw the release of BALZAC's sixth full-length album, CAME OUT OF THE GRAVE, which was bundled in a special black box with a Be@rbrick figure. That summer, the band also participated in a festival alongside the American punk band Rancid. The band’s popularity continued to skyrocket that year, as BALZAC embarked on their first European tour, which covered several countries. They also released Zodiac Killer under the name Zodiac, and performed a special live on Christmas that consisted solely of Misfits covers.

The year 2005 was a fairly quiet one, although the band embarked on the DARKISM TOUR throughout Japan and also returned to Europe to play nine shows in Germany and one in Austria. BALZAC also contributed a cover of Moonlight to the album PARADE-RESPECTIVE TRACKS OF BUCK-TICK and appeared on a tribute album for The Damned.

2006 was an explosive year for the band. The release of their seventh full-length album came with an exclusive SkullBat figure in two limited colors. To promote the album, the group embarked on a nationwide tour soon after its release. During the tour, they released their first best-of album, which included many of their older works re-recorded for the release. Their "secret" band, Zodiac, also finally recorded and released their first full-length studio album.

The following spring saw BALZAC return to Europe, with exclusive shows in Hamburg, Cologne, Munich and Berlin alongside MUCC. Partnering with Gan-Shin, the group released the album, Paranoid Dream of the Zodiac, which featured previously released songs. December saw the release of COMPLETE LEGACY BOOKS, which was sold in two versions. Scapegoat included the special bonus of audio re-recordings of BALZAC's first demo tape and Diabolos included bonus re-recordings of their second demo tape.

In 2008, BALZAC released their eighth studio album, HATRED:DESTRUCTION=CONSTRUCTION in both Japan and Germany. To promote the album, BALZAC embarked on a nine-stop tour of Japan that began in Nagoya.

In 2009 BALZAC released the mini-album Paradox, which was produced by Takeshi Ueda of The Mad Capsule Markets. This productivity continued into 2010 with the release of a limited edition three-disc set entitled Birth of Hatred. This set featured a new album, rare and unreleased material and a DVD containing fifteen PVs. The band also found time to cover Do it yourself for a tribute album to the Japanese hardcore band Aggressive Dogs.

As of winter 2011, BALZAC have released the album JUDGEMENT DAY and the single DERANGED in Japan and Europe. They have Japanese tour dates planned from the end of 2011 into 2012.

As BALZAC remains the dominant horror-punk band in Japan, one can only hope that their legacy will continue for years to come.

AUCIFER

 AUCIFER

Lucifer (リュシフェル Ryushiferu) (stylized as Λucifer) is a ROCK group, best known for contributing several of their songs to the popular anime, KAIKAN PHRASE. The band was formed in 1999, and disbanded in early 2003. They officially debuted on 15 September 1999 with their big hit single Datenshi BLUE, and became increasingly popular thereafter.

Lucifer was put together for the Kaikan Phrase anime to promote it. The anime was based on the popular Shojo manga  by Mayu Shinjo. The band members of real life Lucifer changed their names to match with their anime/manga counterparts, except for the vocalist, who kept his name instead of changing it to Sakuya (the main character's name). Several of Lucifer's songs were used in the anime, along with songs of other j-rock bands like Glay, Feeland e.MU.
However, the band decided to go on even after the anime had ended, and continued to release more music afterwards

Then finally on 25 October 2002, over two and a half years after the anime had ended, they announced that they were breaking up. Following the announcement, they did their last tour entitled "Lucifer Last Live 2002-2003 Energy" from 16 December 2002 to 10 January 2003, which included 9 shows. After that, they appeared for the last time in a TV music show, POPJAM, on 11 January and then did their very last show (which was also their first show done abroad) at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on 19 January.

At first, on the first album, the music was written by Takuya Asanuma (Judy and Mary), Chisato (Penicillin) and Ippei & Taizo (Feel) but after that, the members of the band started writing more. Beatrip featured one song from Atsuro and one from Santa, and the rest were by Takuya and Chisato, but by the third album, nearly all the music had been done by members of the band, save for one song by Takuya, and two of the songs Makoto did that were done as a collaboration with Masaki. The lyrics on the first two albums were all done by Mori Yukinojo

(except for one song on Beatrip, when Makoto did them). On the third album, only the lyrics to the song by Takuya were made by Mori and the rest were done by the band members.
After the break-up of the band;

Makoto has gone on a solo career (first using his given name, then used his full name). Towa and Santa also played on his first mini-album "Vibration"
Towa is in two bands called Olive Sunday and Birth of life  and has done some solo work as well.
Santa is with Towa in Olive Sunday . He is also a working actively as a session drummer and has played on a few Angelique soundtracks and on Anna Tsuchiya 's s first mini-album 'TASTE MY BEAT' , to mention a couple of his projects.
Yuki formed Dustar-3 with two ex-members of Sex Machineguns, Noisy and Himawari. He is also collaborating with Janne Da Arc's yasu on his solo project, Acis Black Cherry. In 2010, he joined Rayflower, a rock band started by Sphia's keyboardist Keichii Miyako.
Atsuro has been playing session guitar for J-pop artists like Meg rock, Marika and Cheiko Kawabe He briefly joined a rock band Tokyo Anastasia.
They were reunited in November 2009 and signed with new label T.N.B. Entertainment.

X Japan (エックス ジャパン Ekkusu Japan) is a Japanese HEAVY METAL band founded in 1982 by YOSHIKI and TOSHI.  Originally named X (エックス), the group achieved their breakthrough success in 1989 with the release of their second album BLUE BLOOD. They started out mainly as a POWET/ SPEED METAL band, but later gravitated towards a Progressive sound with an emphasis on ballads.

Besides being one of the first Japanese acts to achieve mainstream success while on an independent label, the group is widely credited as one of the pioneers of the VISUAL KEI movement. They were known in their early years for their excessively large hairstyles, but toned these down in later years. In 2003, HMV Japan ranked the band at number 40 on their list of the 100 most important Japanese pop acts.

After sixteen years, four albums, and selling out the 55,000 seat TOKIO DOME 18 times, X Japan disbanded in 1997. However, in 2007, the band reunited and recorded a new song. After performing several concerts from 2008 to 2009, including their first overseas show in Hong Kong, the band held their first North American tour from September 25 to October 10, 2010.
In 2011, X Japan went on their first world tour throughout Europe, South America and Asia
They also plan to release their first studio album in more than 14 years in 2011.

HISTORY X JAPAN

1977–1992: X

In 1977, YOSHIKI and TOSHI formed a band called Dynamite when they were just 11 years old. Dynamite changed its name to Noise in 1978, while they were still in high school. In 1982, Noise disbanded and Yoshiki and Toshi formed a new band, they named it X while they tried to think of another name, but the name stuck. X began to actively perform in the Tokyo area in 1985 with a frequently changing lineup. Their first single,I"LL KILL YOU  was released on Dada Records in June and the band contributed "Break the Darkness" to the Sampler Heavy Metal Force III in November, which also featured a song by SAVER TIGER. At the end of 1985 bassist Taiji (ex:Dementia) joined X, though he left the group shortly thereafter.

To ensure a continuous outlet for the band's music, Yoshiki founded the Independent label Extasy Records in April 1986, and released their second single "ORGASM Taiji would officially rejoin the band in November of that same year. The songs "Stab Me in the Back" and "No Connexion", for the February 1987 VICTOR RECORDS sampler Skull Thrash Zone Volume I, were recorded with PATA (ex:Judy) as a support guitar player. Soon after these recordings Hide  (ex SAVER TIGER) oined as guitarist. After Pata once again provided support, this time at a live show, he officially joined completing the group's first steady lineup On December 26, 1987, the band participated in an audition held by CBS\SONY which led to a recording contract in August of the following year. In the meantime, the band released its first album VANISHING VISION through Extasy Records on April 14, 1988 and toured extensively in support of the record The band made a brief CAMEO APPARACE in the American film  Tokyo Pop starring Carrie Hamilton and Diamond Yukai

X's second album Blue Blood was released on April 21, 1989 and spawned several singles, such as "Kurenai" and "Endless Rain".
The group also released their first home video a VHS of a live concert titled "BLUE BLOOD TOUR BAKUHATSU SUNZEN GIG. Recording for the follow-up albumJealousy took place in LOS ANGELES.It was released on July 1, 1991 and was followed by the band's first performance in Japan's largest indoor concert venue, the TOKYO DOME. Footage from most of the band's shows in that stadium would later be released on CD and VHS\DVD

By 1992 the band's success in Japan made an international breakthrough appear likely enough to warrant the renaming of X to X Japan, in order to distinguish the group from the American punk band X.Around the same time bassist Taiji left the group and was replaced by Heath (ex:Media Youth)

1993–1997: X Japan

For the release of their next album, X Japan left Sony and signed a deal with Atlantic Records.Art of life was released on August 28, 1993, containing only the 29-minute title track. Another studio album was not released until November 4, 1996.Dahlia which turned out to be the band's last, contained relatively little new material considering that most tracks on it had been released as singles as early as a few months after Art of Life. Around this time, the group dropped most of its original visual kei aesthetics in favor of a more casual look.

Vocalist Toshi decided to leave the band and a dissolution was officially announced in September 1997. X Japan performed their farewell show at the Tokyo Dome on December 31, making it the last of five consecutive New Year's eve  the group performed in that stadium.

Toshi stated his decision to leave X Japan dated back as far as April 1996 and that the glamorous, success-oriented life of a rock star failed to satisfy him emotionally, as opposed to a simpler life and career

1998–2007: The Solo Years

While reissues, compilations and live footage continued to be released, the members of X Japan pursued various other projects:HIDE , who had been releasing solo material since 1994's HIDE YOUR FACE , continued his solo career with Spread Beaver, now formally including his previous live band and with a sound distinctively different from X Japan's music, leaning more towards alternative rock. But the new group did not last long, due toHIDE'S death in May 1998

TOSHI has released several solo albums, and has performed numerous acoustic  performances for smaller audiences. According to his website, his "Utatabi Traveling Concert" tour has included over 3,000 concerts, between 1999 and 2003.

PATA and HEATH  along with Spread Beaver percussionist/programmer I.N.A., teamed up to provide a track for the 1998 hide tribute album,TRIBUTE SPIRITS.The three would reunite again in 2000 to form Dope HEADz, which released two albums before ceasing activity Heath is currently pursuing a solo career and Pata is a member of  Ra:IN , along with Spread Beaver keyboardist D.I.E.

Before the breakup, YOSHIKI had already independently collaborated with QUEEN and Roger Taylor on the single "Foreign Sand" and provided the Japanese contribution to the international KISS tribute album KISS MY ASS:CLASSIC KISS REGROOVED , AN orchestral arrangement of the song "Black Diamond. A compilation with orchestral treatments of X Japan songs, titled ETERNAL MELODY was also released. It was performed by the LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA and among others featured THE BEATLES producer GORGE MARTIN  as an arranger

Since 1998 Yoshiki has engaged in numerous activities, such as being briefly a member of the pop band GLOBE producing singles for the KOREAN   rock band TRAX and numerous others As well as working on his solo project Violet UK, which as of 2007 had not yet published a major release. He has also contributed music to the movie CATACOMBS and produced the soundtrack of REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA . On May 25, 2007, the formation of the supergroup S.K.I.N was announced, which besides Yoshiki consists of pop/rock artists GACKT and MIYAVI , as well as LUNA SEA guitarist SUGIZO. . The band gave its first and only performance at the ANIME EXPO convention in LONG BEACH CALIFORNIA on June 29, 2007.

2007–2008: Reunion

In March 2007 Toshi announced on his website that he and Yoshiki had recently resumed working together, stating that a "new project" would commence soon.An X Japan reunion was officially confirmed on June 4, 2007, with Yoshiki announcing a tour, as well as a new single to be underway and that he was in talks with Heath and Pata regarding their participation.

The band made its first public appearance on October 22, 2007, on the rooftop of the shopping center, Aqua City in ODAIBA TOKYO , during which a music video for the newly recorded song "I.V" was filmed. "I.V." was also the theme song of the American movie SAW IV
. It was written by Yoshiki and recorded with all X Japan members of the pre-breakup lineup, as it utilizes previously unreleased guitar tracks by HIDE "I.V." was released through iTunes on January 23, 2008, topping the store's charts on that day.

On January 20, 2008 two Tokyo Dome concert dates were announced for March 28 and March 30.
Due to popular demand, they added another concert for the 29th. These three shows were entitled "Resume Attack 2008 I.V. - Towards Destruction", with each individual concert titled "Night of Destruction", "Night of Madness" and "Night of Creation", respectively, and featured three guest guitarists filling in for the late HIDE-WES BORLAND RICHARD FORTUS and SUGIZO.The March 28 concert was aired live on the pay-per-view channel WOWOW During the song "Art of Life" a hologram of hide (taken from footage of the "Art of Life" performance at the Tokyo Dome in 1993) played alongside the band.
Because of technical difficulties, possibly due to the hologram, the first concert was delayed for over two hours and later came to an abrupt end when drummer Yoshiki collapsed eight songs into the performance
The subsequent shows were without such difficulties and during a press conference , plans for a concert in PARIS, FRANCE on July 5, 2008 were announced, with an intended audience of 20,000 people.  In addition to the Paris date, plans for concerts at the MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, NEW YORK on September 13, and at the TAIPEI WORLD TRADE CENTER, TAIPEI on August 2 were also confirmed.

2008–2009: Delays, Sugizo joins

The "HIDE memorial summit" took place on May 2 and 3, 2008 with X Japan performing and numerous other acts such as DIR EN GREY and OBLIVION, PHANTASMAGORIA and LUNA SEA even reunited for one day to perform. On June 8, it was reported that all previously scheduled shows would be postponed until further notice, due to a recurrence of Yoshiki's disc herniation. The Paris and Taipei concerts were re-scheduled, Paris for November 22, 2009.
On September 15, 2008, Yoshiki held a press conference in Tokyo, where he announced a new, unnamed X Japan song was in the works. On September 15, 2008, Yoshiki held a press conference in Tokyo, where he announced a new, unnamed X Japan song was in the works. Concerts for Christmas and New Year's Eve 2008 were also announced. After the conference Yoshiki went on a promotional tour across Asia.On November 7, the French ticketing website Avos announced that the planned ticket sale for the show in Paris would be canceled. Later that day, X Japan released a press statement through their French language website apologizing for the second postponement and announced that the planned Christmas shows would likely suffer a similar fate. In early January the previously announced Taiwan concert date was postponed for a second time. On December 31, X Japan performed their New Year's Eve countdown performance at the AKASAKA BLITZ , performing a set list which included older material.

On January 15, 2009, the band arrived in HONG KONG for their January 16 and 17 shows. On May 1, SUGIZO  officially joined X Japan as lead guitarist. On May 30, 2009 the band had their first live show with Sugizo, as a full member, in Taiwan.

2010: First North American tour, new album announced

On January 9, 2010 the band made its first public U.S. appearance by shooting four new music videos in Hollywood.he four videos were for " Rusty Nail ", " ENDLESS RAIN ", " I.V , and their new song "JADE" In February, Yoshiki confirmed that X Japan will be performing at LOLLAPALOOZA in August. Later that month, He announced at a press event that the band would be relocating to Los Angeles, California, with a concert being planned for a "simple" venue in the city area to mark the band's first official North American show. It was also announced that a sixth album was in the works and was expected to be released in the fall.

In March 2010, Yoshiki filed a lawsuit against Nexstar Corporation, for 375 million yen in damages. The claim states that after X Japan reunited, they entered a contract with Nexstar Corporation in January 2008, which included the use of some recordings. That initial deal was for 600 million yen in advance royalties and contract money, which has been entirely unpaid. Between 2008 and 2009, the company also sponsored ten of the band's concerts in Japan and other parts of Asia. About 320 million yen in performance fees and merchandise sales from those concerts is due to the band as well. In all, the total unpaid amount is more than 900 million yen. The lawsuit is currently seeking only 375 million yen for the revenue earned from the concerts, but should the case go to trial, Yoshiki's side plans to file an additional claim for the 600 million yen in the initial contract.

On July 1, the band appeared at Club Nokia in Los Angeles where they performed an acoustic setlist, and recorded a music video for the new song, " BORN TO BE FREE". They also released a new music video for "Rusty Nail". On July 4, the two founding members Toshi and Yoshiki, appeared in Paris at the JAPAN EXPO 2010 where they performed some songs.

On August 14 and 15, 2010, the band performed a two-day show at Nissan Stadium the largest stadium in Japan. It was reported that over 100,000 fans attended the two shows with some estimates as high as 140,000 in attendance. Ex-bassist Taiji  joined them on stage both nights, as a guest, for the song "X".Soon after, former deceased guitarist hide's management company, Headwax Organization, filed a lawsuit against Yoshiki and X Japan's management, Japan Music Agency, for using images of the former member without a formal agreement in place. The claim states that in 2000 the two companies signed an agreement allowing Yoshiki and X Japan to use visual images of hide during concerts. However, images were used at these Nissan Stadium shows, when apparently the contract was expired.

From September 25 to October 10, X Japan performed their first ever North American tour with dates in Los Angeles, OAKLAND, SEATTLE , Chicago, VANCOUVER, TORONTO and New York City.
n December 17, Yoshiki announced that a new X Japan song, "SCARLET LOVE SONG", was composed for the animated movie adaptation of the BUDDHA MANGA

In promotion of the new album, it was also stated they would be touring extensively around the world throughout 2011.
X Japan performed on March 6, 2011, at "Asia Girls Explosion", a fashion event and music concert that Yoshiki created with Jay FR. It was announced they would perform in ARGENTINA, Brazil , Chile,  Mexico and Peru later in the year.
Due to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan on March 11, the band decided to postpone the release of "Jade" until June 28. SOLFEGE

SOLFEGE

Formed in 1995 in Fukuoka, Japan, Solfege’s only constant members were the guitarist Rais and drummer sia. The first line-up was complemented by Nao on vocals and Nozomi on bass. Three demotapes and the first mini-album, Lacunes d’air (1999), were released before Nozomi’s replacement by Sakura for only the release of the band’s 4th demotape; after so Sakura left.

During 2001, without a official bassist, 2 more releases followed. In the same year vocalist Nao was replaced by kairi. It was only in 2003 that a new bassist joined, Keshiko. In 2004 occured new changes in line-up: kairi left Solfege and Miyu joined. Solfege’s Hakoniwa no sepia was then released, the song being free for download on their website. Before their break-up in February, 2005, keshiko was replaced by Ageha on bass.

Solfege played an one night only revival early 2006 with vocalist KAIRI  releasing the “revers de la memoire” CD.KAIRI and Rais went on to form BLANC CHAIN

KAMAITACHI

KAMAITACHI

Kamaitachi (かまいたち) was formed in October 1985 in Kyoto, Japan by Ken-chan and Yama-chan, both will be later known as Crazy Danger Nancy Ken-chan and Mogwai respectfully. Kamaitachi was one of the most influentical and popular bands of the early visual scene. C.D.N Ken-chan will be noted as a major influence in the visual scene by being a member of the later bands SISTER'S NO FUTURE, THE DEAD POP STARS,∀NTI FEMINISM,

The band wasn’t always called “Kamaitachi”, but were originally called “Mogura”. But after a practice jam, Ken-chan decided Mogura wasn’t the right name for the band and thought Kamaitachi fit the group better. The group’s first live was held a month after their formation and managed to release three demos from 1985 to 1986. As a band, Kamaitachi had a rocky start. They didn’t know where to go or what to do and couldn’t hold down a steady line-up. The image they had varied depending on who was in the band. During this period, their look ranged from looking like KKK members to just wearing pajamas. After Wataru and Shinobi left the band, things started to look great for Ken-Chan and Mogwai.

In October of 1987, Sceana joined the group. Sceana had been in two bands previously before joining Kamaitachi. Along with Sceana came Andy. Andy would later form the band DECAMERON with Sceana’s older brother, Naoki, in June 1988. But before Andy’s departure, Kamaitachi released one demo tape with this line-up.

The band didn’t waste much time finding a replacement for Andy, by having Madoka join the group as soon as Andy left. However, after only being in the band for seven months, Madoka withdrew from the group. Until they found a replacement, Andy and another guitarist helped the band out. Even in March 1989, Kamaitachi were still missing a guitarist. During this time, Kamaitachi held a “VS” concert against ZI:KILL

But before Kamaitachi’s “VS” concert against the newly founded band BY-SEXUAL the group managed to snag former Decameron bassist, Kazzy. This would be the final line-up for the band until they disband in 1991. Five months after Kazzy joins the band, Kamaitachi released their first album and did a mini-tour to support the band. Around this time, record labels were drawn to the quirky band due to both the rising popularity of bands like X and Color and the fact that Kamaitachi’s first album sold very quickly.

Before 1990 even started, Kamaitachi made their major debut by releasing the single “Hecha Mecha Hime”. To help promote Kamaitachi, they were compared to AURA,another successful visual kei group of the period. The success of the single lead to a national tour and the album “Hacha Mecha Kyo”. Kamaitachi were enjoying their fame until Crazy Danger Nancy Ken-chan fell ill mysteriously and was hospitalized in April 1991. In June, Kamaitachi would release their last studio album. Eight days after this release, the group announced they were calling it quits. The reasoning is unknown, some say C.D.N Ken-chan’s sudden illness cause some strain among the other members and others say the members wanted to go in different musical directions. Regardless, on September 6, 1991; the band disbanded.

After the disbandment, each member went on to do their own thing. Sceana first joined Seamonkey but the band disbanded soon after. Then, Sceana formed Genkaku Allergy with Kazzy. When Genkaku Allergy finished, Sceana and his brother, Naoki of Decameron, formed bothOCTOPUS CULT and ALIEN 9 BALL together. In 2006, Sceana revived Genkaku Allergy for a year until disappearing from the music scene. In early 2009, Sceana started up a new band called Intracerebral Hemorrhage. Kazzy disappeared from the scene completely after Genkaku Allergy. However, there has been a rumor about Kazzy being a guitarist in Alien 9 Ball.

C.D.N Ken-chan formed the side project, Sister’s No Future, with COLOR rontman, Dynamite Tommy. C.D.N Ken-chan also formed The Dead Pop Stars around the same time. In 1995, C.D.N Ken-chan changed his stage name to Kenzi. Kenzi is still active in the visual kei scene that he helped formed by being in the shock visual kei band, Anti-Feminisim. Kenzi also runs the record label, Anarcist Records which is a sub-label of Free Will Records.

Mogwai career was a little more weak compare to the other members. Not much is known about Mogwai’s career after Kamaitachi. He first went to join ALUCARD sometime after Kamaitachi in 1992. In some where around 2005, Mogwai joined FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN a band that has also went by F.F. in the early 90’s and DJ Flankenstein. In 2008, he and Kenzi performed along with some of the members of Seamonkey for the Free-Will Day of the three Marry Memorial Concerts. This was the first time Kenzi and Mogwai performed together since Kamaitachi’s disbandment. Flesh For FLANKENSTEIN is now signed to Under-Code Records, a sub-label of Free Will Records.

JILS

JILS

JILS was an indies Visual kei band. Their music style is pretty melodic and mostly melancholic, yet energetic. Their visual style is basically ‘Kurofuku kei’ concentrating on (in vk terms) simple black clothing, including suits etc.

JILS was formed in 1999 by vocalist 幸也-YUKIYA- (Ex D=SIRE) , guitarist SHUN- (later named SHUNSUKE , Ex- VASALLA),guitarist MARIKI (Ex-ZENITH) and drummer HIDEYOSHI- (exD=SIRE)  In December, 1999 HIDEYOSHI left the band and shortly after, two new members joined JILS forming a complete 5 member line-up: the bassist 蓮-REN- (ex-Da’ vid no shito: AL,P;EUR now in C 4) , and drummer TOHRU (ex-Merry Go Round, Of-J)
They stayed like this and released a lot of successful releases but after 2 years, REN, MARIKI and TOHRU left the band.
Around 2003, new bassist ICHIRO - (ex-DAS:VASSER) joined, and also old bandmate HIDEYOSHI re-joined again on drums, but after a few months he left, so JILS was a 3 piece band again in mid-2003. They performed with various session/support drummers, such as SASABUCHI HIROSHI (ex-Velvet Blue) KATO TOMOHIRO (ex- KLEIN KAISER)and Tomoi (ex-LAPUTA)

Between 1999 and 2004 they released an impressive amount of demotapes, singles and albums until they eventually went on a break. Between 2004 and 2006 the members focused on other activities such as side projects. (Shunsuke: THE FUZZ               Ichiro:ROOM NUMBER)
